Tank House beside canal at Crown Glass Works, Watson Street, St Helens - St Helens
Tank house built in 1883 and considered the best surviving example of a late C19 glass making furnace in England. Containing the remains of the Siemens regenerative tank furnace, this represented a radical departure from traditional glass making techniques. The rectangular brick building with oval conical flue rising through the roof has suffered extensive movement to the west corner. A recent condition survey has been undertaken to identify the issues with the building and temporary propping, funded by Historic England, has been installed.
