SK 75 NE NORTH MUSKHAM MAIN STREET

7/63 The Old Hall G.V. II House. c.1679. West front remodelled and alterations made
c.1820. Coursed rubble and brick, whitewashed, with C20 pantile
and slate roofs. Partial brick plinth. Rebated eaves, 2 ridge
and 2 gable stacks. 2 storeys plus garrets, 3 bays. Single
range with additional wings. Main west front has to left a C19
single storey, single bay addition,brick with pantile roof. To
right, lower 2 storey C19 service wing, 2 bays, brick with slate
roof. To left, 2 glazing bar sashes with segmental heads, and to
right, tripartite glazing bar sash with moulded architrave and
paterae. To right again, 2 glazing bar sashes with segmental
heads. All have rubbed brick heads. Above, to left, 3 glazing
bar sashes and to right, 2 casements, all with rubbed brick
segmental heads. South end has, above, a plain sash. North end
has to left, 2 casements, one with segmental head. To right,
door and a pair of garage doors. Above, to garret, a Yorkshire
sash with segmental head. East front has to left a single storey
service wing with double pitched roof. Main east front has to
left, leaded flat roofed porch with iron columns, panelled and
moulded doorcase and panelled door. Flanked to left by round
headed glazing bar sash with Gothick tracery, and to right by a
blocked doorway. To right again, a glazing bar sash and a plank
door with segmental head. Above, to left, glazing bar sash with
segmental head, and to right, 2 glazing bar casements, that to
right with segmental head. Service wing to left has 2 cellar
lights and a casement. In return angle, to north, a casement
with segmental head. In return angle to south, a Yorkshire sash
with segmental head, and above, a barred light. To left again
C19 toilet block has, to left, hatch, and to right, door with
segmental head. South end has door to left and hatch to right.
Interior has part of staircase with moulded square newels with
recessed chip carved panels inscribed '1679'. Chip carved
moulded handrail, turned balusters. Plain C19 staircase with
stick balusters. Main living room has ashlar fireplace with
round headed reeded surround and crested keystone. Eastern
service wing has stud partition and oak winder stair with square
newels. Bedrooms have 5 incised stone fireplaces with Adam style
hob grates. 3 plank and 5 two panel C18 doors plus 3 six panel
and 3 four panel C19 doors. Early C19 panelled fitted dresser.
