GV II Nurseries - range of linked buildings. Mostly mid C19. Local lias stone, double Roman clay tile roofs. 'L' plan, four
distinct units. Unit 'A' east of offices (qv). Hipped roof; 2 storeys, 3 bays; plinth, string courses; casement
windows, upper set in near-elliptical arches with impost blocks and keystones, lower are large sub-divided shop windows
bays 1 and 2, and throughway with near-elliptical arch having impost blocks and keystone, bay 3; this block could be
later C19. Unit 'B' the south east corner unit: Sussex hipped roof; 3 storeys, 3 bays x 2 bays: random rubble with
dressings; plinth, string courses; to ground floor wide near-elliptical arches with impost blocks and keystones, filled
with green-house type windows and doors; other floors have 2-light small- pane casements set in voussoired segmental
arched openings. Unit 'C' north of Unit 'B' and linked by iron bridge at first floor level; cut and squared stone,
hipped roof with Bridgwater ridge finials, upper floors added: 4 storeys, 1 bay facing east; elliptical arched doorway
below, above are 2-light casement windows; matching 2-bay south elevation with a door at first floor level and the
second floor windows having elliptical arched heads. Unit 'D' linked to, and north of, Unit 'C' by single-storey timber
and corrugated iron building: random unsquared uncoursed stone: plinth, band courses; plain gabled roof with ornamented
Bridgwater terracotta ridge and finials: 4 storeys, 3 bays east elevation, set at right angles to Units 'B' and 'C';
2-light casement windows in voussoired segmental arched openings. The interiors not seen. The whole has considerable
group value: the nurseries were founded in 1851 as the Royal Nursery, but later took the name of their founder. (VCH,
