Church. C13 and later. Ham stone roughly squared and coursed, with ashlar dressings; plain clay tiles between coped gables to chancel south aisle and nave, lead roof to North aisle and tower, stone slates to South porch. 4-cell plan with 2-bay chancel and 3-bay nave and aisles, South porch and tower in North East corner. Chancel an 1885 rebuild incorporating earlier fragments; plinth, string courses, angled offset corner buttresses, eaves string; East window of 3-lights C16 pattern in deep shallow pointed arched recess, with 2-light C19 pattern side windows; full height butresses. South aisle has plinth, full height buttresses and plain parapet and 3-light windows matching chancel East window in South wall, and 2-light flat head C19 pattern windows in East and West walls. North aisle of 1489 and more ornate: deep plinth and heavy cill string, upper string with gargoyles and battlemented parapet; 3-light traceried windows in deep pointed arch recesses with labels; simple pointed arch doorway with moulded arch and jambs under square label East of Westernmost window, the door probably C18; tomb of 1636 set under this window partly into wall. Nave has plain West door in labelled pointed arch, and 3-light C14 style window above. Tower of 2-stages marked by string courses, simple parapets, unbutressed; lowest stage has simple lancets North and East faces and simple arched doorway in South East corner; simple lancet just above string East side, to North a smaller C15 window; to head of tower pairs cusped lancets each face: lead spouts, with gargoyle East face. South porch simple, with moulded 2-centre arched openings without capitals; bench seats, holy water stoup in North East corner. Internally, chancel has C19 arched rib vault timber roof with bosses; pointed arch to tower incorporates early stone coffin lid with incised cross; C16 statue bracket under North window, C14 piscina in South East corner; choir stalls mostly of C16. Nave has C19 open timber roof, with mid C13 South arcade of chamfered arches, capitals mostly dressed off; North arcade of 1489 with shallow pointed parelled arches; circular rere-arch to West window: some good bench ends of 1523, and timber pulpit dated 1619. North aisle has C15 coffered rib roof, almost flat, and at West end an early C12 font, fluted with cable decoration. Fragment of wall painting in South-East corner of South aisle. Memorials include large marble plaque with draped urn over, commemorating John Newman, died 1799, and incised Keinton slab to Walter Ridout, died 1680, in North and South aisles respectively. C16 chest near pulpit. 2 bells in tower said to be of circa 1400. (G Waldon, Guide to Barwick Church, 1968).
