Farmhouse, now a house. Mid C17, rebuilt 1727, with C19 and mid
C20 alterations. Brick with plain tile roof. Plinth, coped
corner pilasters, moulded first and second floor brick bands,
corbelled brick eaves and verges. 2 coped brick ridge stacks. 2
storeys plus garrets, 3 bays. H-plan. West front has a recessed
centre with a basket arched opening containing a late C18 6 panel
margin stile door with flanking lights and pilasters and
overlight. Flat slate hood inscribed 'N G 1727'. Beyond, in
each wing, a C19 wooden cross casement with restored rubbed brick
head. Above the door, a similar cross casement, flanked in each
wing by a similar cross casement with rubbed brick head. South
side has brick diaper work. To the right, an altered basket
arched opening with a late C18 4 panelled door with slate hood.
to its left, a C19 casement. Above, 2 three light cross
casements, that to the right with leaded glazing. North side has
to left a C20 2 light cross casement and to right a pair of half
glazed doors in a segmental headed opening. Above, a slightly
off-centre 3 light casement with remains of leaded glazing. To
its left, a similar casement. Double gabled rear elevation,
largely rebuilt c.1985, has a central mullioned C19 stair light
and below it a 2 light sliding sash. To its left, a 3 light
glazing bar casement with segmental head. To its right, a small
C20 casement. Above, to left, a 2 light casement with segmental
head. Above again, in each gable, a 2 light casement with
segmental head. Interior has a central entrance hall with
patterned stone floor with 2 flight oak dogleg stair with square
newels, vase and stem balusters and moulded handrail, moulded
span beam and 4 panelled oak doors. Panelled north-west room has
a moulded cornice, and to east a central slate fireplace flanked
by single round headed cupboards with keystones and shaped
shelves, behind doors which match the panelling. North west
first floor room has to east a small Classical slate fireplace
flanked by single fielded panelled cupboard doors. North east
first floor room has an early C19 stone fireplace with a hob
grate, and a moulded 4 panel C18 door. Other rooms have ceiling
beams with ogee stops and 5 C18 plank doors. Double purlin roof
mainly of re-used timber.
