House. c1650 with C19 alterations; restored in late C20. Timber-framed with rendered infill on high sandstone rubble plinth; steeply pitched tiled roofs. 3 bay main range, rear wing adjoins north bay at junction of which is a large sandstone rubble chimney with 4 clustered, decorated brick shafts; an additional chimney with external rubble stack adjoins rear of south bay and has 3 slender, long octagonal shafts of mid C19 date. 2 storeys, attic and half-cellar beneath entire front range; small, square panelled wall frame, ground floor of main range has close-set vertical studding; windows to main storeys are regularly spaced either 4 or 5 light, ovolo-moulded wooden mullions and transomes with tiled weatherings, and project slightly beyond the wall-frame on carved console brackets; gable ends have similar fenestration and attic lights; casements to cellar. Main entrance to rear central bay has C20 timber door and tiled timber porch; also rear entrance in east gable end and door to cellar in south gable end. Interior Front range has a 2 purlin roof with long wind-braces from ridge to lower purlin. Ground and first floor ceiling of 2 longitudinal main beams with an intermediate secondary beam in each bay, jointed at the front into the centre of the window lintel; all the main beams are chamfered and stopped. Some C17 broad oak floor boards survive. Main staircase in central bay, and fireplaces are all C20 replacements. Rare example of late large timber-framed house in the County with a symmetrical plan and facade; transitional between the timber-framed tradition and early C18 brick houses of similar proportions.
