3/106 Aisled barn and adjoining stable block about 50 yards north of Kedges Farmhouse GV II

Aisled barn and stable block. C17, altered and extended C19. Timber-framed, weatherboarded, barn having some wattle, and stable some brick infill panels, sandstone rubble and brick plinth, tiled roofs. Barn: originally of 5 framed bays, aisled to north elevation, central wagon bay with opposed square-headed cart entries, now blocked to south, and midstrey to north. Probably during C19 barn extended to west by addition of 3 further framed bays having central wagon bay with open square-headed cart entries and outshut to south elevation, extended along 2 bays of older barn. Interior: 5-bay part has end nave trusses, inter- mediate raking struts and single, trenched purlins. Two large rectangular panels from sill to wall-plate with short, straight braces in lower corners of upper row of panels to south and long, straight braces in lower corners of north arcade frame. Aisle each side of midstrey has swept and chamfered brace from aisle wall-post to arcade-post. Three-bay part has end queen strut truss, 2 intermediate king-post trusses and single, trenched purlins, 3 panels from sill to wall-plate, one rectangular below and 2 square above with long straight braces in lower corners. Stable block: range of 4 framed bays; 4 stable doors and 2 square openings with wooden shutters and a hayloft door in south elevation. Interior: Queen strut trusses throughout with single, trenched purlins. Square panels, 3 from sill to wall-plate to south 2 to north as roof drops to lower level. Floored except for bay adjoining barn At east gable end is a single storey 2-bay wing, with a hipped roof and south gable to the right bay. The left bay is open for covered wagon access. Roof construction of raking strut trusses with single, trenched purlins.
