GV II
Dovecote and gateway. Late C16 or C17 dovecote, c1920 gateway, by and for C.P. Wade. Roughly squared, coursed stone with stone slate roof to dovecote; random rubble wall, ashlar gate posts: wooden gates. Dovecote square, no loft; gates in wall from one corner. Elevation towards house: boarded door with timber lintel on right, parapet gables, cross-gablet apices. Central, gabled glover on ridge, roof supported on timber posts, sides open. Right return window with stone lintel in gable, filled with wooden 'eggcrate'; boards below for landing platform. Set back on right return wall to gate, flat stone capping, sweeping up to square ashlar pier, moulded cap, cavetto to ball finial. Timber bar across to similar gate pier and wall, extending to garden house (q.v.). Double wooden gates, panelled below, bars above: 3 semi- circular steps beyond down to lower level. Interior: nests in rows in stone walls, as projecting strips: original entrance in back wall. One pair purlins to roof, plank ridge. Forms group with House and garden buildings (q.v.).
