House. C16, C17, C18 and c.1900. Mixed walling; tile-hung front (with scalloped
bands), brickwork in English bond, exposed framing bricknogged, small areas of
coursed malmstone and boarding. Tile roof, hipped at the rear, with outshots, and
gabled dormers. Late-medieval timber-framed hall with smoke bay, later filled with
a massive stack and insertion of upper floor to produce a lobby-entrance dwelling,
with staircase replaced by a C17 staircase block, which was absorbed within a large
C17 timber-framed rear wing. South front of 2 storeys, 2 windows; plain roof with
shafted stack, tile-hung walls, C20 casements, and plain doorway with hood on
brackets. The west side, refaced and restored c.1900, embodies the rear wing, with
an elevation of 2 storeys and attic, 3 windows; tile-hung south side gable, 2
gabled dormers, brick walls in English bond, casements, and open porch. Interior:
the fireplaces have C16 chamfered stone surrounds (facing east) and C16 timber-
bressummers (also chamfered with Tudor arched form) on the west side, the staircase
has framing (possibly re-used) of Jacobean form, with crude newels, most of the
framing being visible.
