Pair of pedestals supporting fruit bowl vases. Late C17.
Incorporated into early C18 garden designed by Royal Gardeners
to Queen Anne, London and Wise, for Thomas Coke of Melbourne
Hall with work carried out by William Cooke of Walcot. Stone.
Two similar pedestals and vases. Each has a plain pedestal on
stepped plinth, with large lattice work basket over containing
fruit and flowers, standing on a moulded tapering base. These
probably belonged to the earlier formal garden at Melbourne
Hall. Included in the Derbyshire Historic Gardens Register at
Grade I. Sources - see Anthony J, 'Gardens of Britain', 1979,
