Former manor house, now farmhouse. Late C15 or early C16 core, remodelled
during late C16 and C17, altered C20. Part timber-framed with sandstone
rubble plinth, part wattle-and-daub infill, sandstone rubble west cross-
wing with ashlar dressings, C20 tiled roof. Former L-shaped house; hall
aligned east/west with rear wing to south-east, later cross-wing added to
west and forward projecting C17 porch to north (entrance elevation), large
axial stack backing onto through-passage, further stack to east gable end
and external stack to north gable of cross-wing. Former hall: single storey
attic and basement, irregular fenestration; large gabled dormer to west with
C20 6-light glazing bar casement window, two 2-light casements below,
traces of two further blocked windows to east. Framing: irregular square
panelling to west with large swept brace rising from sill, close-studding
to east above girding rail, high rubble plinth, West cross-wing: two
storeys and attic, moulded plinth and raised coped verges, stone mullioned
windows with hoodmoulds; single light windows flank stack to north gable end,
partly blocked windows to ground floor, 2-light window to east, single light
in gable to west. Two storey gabled porch, rubble ground floor, moulded
bressummer and brackets support timber-framed upper storey, C20 5-light
window with moulded sill and two brackets remaining of former oriel window,
blocked projecting 2-light window in gable, partly-glazed C20 door. Square
panelled framing. Interior: greatly altered, former three-bay hall, four
cruck trusses, central two remaining fairly intact, inserted floor with
plain chamfered joists.
