Pair of semi-detached houses and attached railings. c1820-50.
Stucco over brick with concealed roof, left end and party-wall
stucco stacks; cast- and wrought-iron railings and window
guards. Double-depth plan with full-height range to rear.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement, 7 first-floor windows
(3:1:3), the outer bays are full-height bows. Stucco detailing
includes first-floor band, frieze and cornice over first
floor; crowning frieze, cornice and blocking course; pilaster
strips between windows. 6/6 sashes throughout, those to bay
curved on plan. Pair of central entrances: 4-panel,
part-glazed doors in pilastered doorcase with frieze and
cornice and with fielded-panel reveals. Rear range has 6/6
sashes and, to No. 7 a tripartite window with 6/6 between 2/2
sashes.
INTERIOR: to left (No.7), inner entrance has double doors with
margin-lights and fanlight with radial glazing bars;
egg-and-dart cornices and ceiling frieze; narrow-open-well
staircase has stick balusters; 6-fielded-panel doors.
Otherwise not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: first-floor window guards have rods with
half-circles; lancet area railings have urn finials to
stanchions. An interesting design for a semi-detached house,
the robust facade unified by the bowed outer bays.
