Details

WITHERIDGE SS 81 NE 6/60 Colleton Hall - II Small country house in wooded setting. Early C19 Rubble core, stuccoed and colourwashed, tall rendered stacks, 2 groups of 3, one set singly. Plan and development: single room depth with 3 wings projecting onto the garden front, to the extreme right of the front service rooms and added folly. Internal plan of 2 principal reception rooms flanking a large entrance hall. Gothick style. Exterior: 2 storeys, 1:1:1:2:3 windows, casements with glazing bars and marginal lights, second bay from left in a projecting wing with coping, fourth bay in gabled projecting wing, 2 point-arched windows on the ground floor, Y-tracery Bays to each side of projecting wing, that to left canted, iron balconies set over. C20 casements to right. To the extreme right of the front a late C19 folly or garden room in a loose medieval style with a conical roof, narrow semi-circular headed openings, door opening with a plank door. Principal door opening to the rear created in the mid C20, pair of half-glazed doors. Interior with plaster Gothick vaulting with ribs and bosses to the entrance hall, 2 archways with pointed arch heads and moulded surrounds; this hall with a mid C20 staircase inserted in neo-Georgian style, at the same time the remainder of the interior was altered and other neo-Georgian features were incorporated including chimneypieces.
