Farmhouse. Circa mid top late C18. Local stone rubble, rendered front and left (south west) side. Hipped scantle slate roof, with asbestos slates to front pitch. Large central axial chimney stack with taped cap. Plan: externally virtually symmetrical cruciform plan with central projection at front and rear. The plan is double depth with the best parlour at the centre which projects of the front, a smaller heated room to left and a stair hall/through passage to the right and with a full depth but narrow unheated service room to the extreme right. behind the left room a shallow unheated room, and behind the centre room is the kitchen which projects at the rear and has a large fireplace in the central stack, back-to-back with the best parlour fireplace. The kitchen fireplace is originally said to have had an oven in the side of the stack. Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3 bays, centre gabled and projecting, right-hand bay slightly wider. First floor 3 small window openings with C20 casements. Ground floor right also C20 2-light casement, ground floor left late C19 2-light casement with glazing bars. Ground floor centre late C19 3-light casement with glazing bars. All windows in original unaltered openings. Doorway to right of centre projecting bay, with C19 plank door in sequential arched opening, the C20 lean-to-porch in the angle. Rear: 2:1:1 windows, centre projects with hipped roof. C19 2 and 3-light casements with glazing bars. Passage doorway to left of centre bay with C20 concrete block porch in the angle. Interior: at the rear of the passage a dog-leg staircase with square newels and stick balusters, the balusters removed from first flight. Plastered stud partition between the passage and the unheated dairy to right. Parlour centre has C20 fireplace, but small room to left has simple wooden chimneypiece with bracketed shelf. The shallow rear service room behind and the kitchen may have always been one room. the large kitchen fireplace has an unchamfered wooden lintel and stone rubble jambs back-to- back with the parlour fireplace. Originally there is said to have been an oven in the side of the stack. Some C18 2-panel and 6-panel doors. The first floor has some old plank doors. This house has a more unusual transitional plan which achieves external symmetry by having a complete double depth arrangement with a projecting centre, while retaining the traditional passage and dairy of one end.
