Manor house, now farmhouse. C17 with C19 alterations. Rendered stone and coursed
limestone. Gritstone dressings and quoins. Ashlar porch. Roofs, part plain tile
and part stone slate. Large stone side wall stacks to front and west. Gable end
stack to north. Ridge back stone copings with moulded kneelers to front and rear
gables. Continuous moulded stringcourses all around building to ground and first
floors. Three bays, three storeys plus attics. Double pile plan. Double gabled,
rendered front elevation with grand later C17 single storey porch with balustrade.
Central semi-circular headed arch with massive keystone and banded rustication.
Half arches to sides. Moulded cornice above. Balustrade over with square corner
and central pillars, moulded balusters between with loop decoration. Moulded
handrail over. Below, original doorway. Moulded jambs and impost. Large lintel
over with central boss on segmental arched base. Two carved panels above, the top
with two florets, the lower curved. Oak studded door, possibly original. To either
side, 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, probably formerly transomed,
altered in C19. Above, two similar, but shallower windows, also probably originally
transomed. Centrally placed doorcase above porch with stepped, moulded architrave.
C20 glazed door. Adjoining, to west, carved coat of arms. Above, to either side,
3-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows with early iron casements. Above
again in gables, single light recessed and chamfered windows with stringcourses
over. West elevation - two blocked mullioned and transomed windows. Also 4-light
recessed and chamfered mullion window with major mullion, formerly transomed. Most
of the original openings survive without their transomes. Oak panelling to dining
room. Original dog-leg staircase with turned balusters, newel finials and matching
pendentives.
