address) GV II House. Circa 1560, altered in C19. Timber framed, partly clad with brickwork,
all plastered, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. Main range of 3 bays
facing NW (on to Church Street), with one axial stack. One-bay rear wing at
right end, with a stack at the junction. C19 single-storey lean-to extension at
rear left, with slate roof. Early C19 2-bay wing to rear centre. 2 storeys
with attics. 3-window range of early C19 sashes of 16 lights with crown glass.
One C19 horizontal sash of 12 lights in a gabled dormer. C20 plain door to
through-passage. At first-floor level, late CL9 softwood fascia carved in early
C16 style with continuous folded leaf design, damaged by sand-blasting. The
right return (to Albert Place) has on the ground floor one early C19 sash of 12
lights, one of 16 lights in a segmental arch, and on the first floor 2 early C19
sashes of 12 lights, and one of 16 lights in a segmental arch; one C20 sash in
attic gable. C19/20 half-glazed door with gabled canopy, ornamental slates, and
brackets. Similar carved fascia. Late C19/early C20 bargeboards with simple
geometrical design of chamfers and piercings. Jowled posts. Moulded transverse
beams with roll and step stops. Moulded axial beams, partly boxed. Joists of
horizontal section with a single roll moulding at the arrises, and some plain.
Underbuilt full-length jetty to Church Street. In axial stack, one C19 hearth
and one blocked. In stack at left end (shared with no. 52, Church Street), wide
wood-burning hearth reduced for smaller grate. C17 inserted ceiling above first
floor. Butt-purlin roof with arched wind-bracing. Early C19 quarter-turn stair
from first floor to attic, with turned newels, straight handrail and stick
