Farmhouse, now house. C15 origin (probably open-hall house) floored and hall
stack built C16, kitchen wing to rear of C17 and alterations to front left of
house, C19 and C20 alterations. Sandstone rubble with limestone dressings,
brick, pantiled roofs with some double Roman tiles, ridge and gable stacks (some
C20 replacements) and raised coped verges. Through passage, irregular T-plan
formed by rear wing. 2 storeys and 4 windows, ground floor has 2 replacement
16-pane sashes to left and two 20-pane sashes to right, all with segmental heads,
off-centre (towards left) (19 gabled porch with C20 door, ridge stack to right of
porch, first floor has four 20-pane sashes under eaves. Left return has C20
glazed door to right, 2-light casement with replacement stone mullion to left,
C20 9-pane sash at first floor left, sash to right, C20 conservatory at ground
floor. Right return has external weathered stack, all windows cusped ogee-headed
with C20 leaded lights, ground floor right C20 replacement; ground floor has
single light to left, 2-light to right, first floor has narrow single light to
left and 2-light to right, attic has single light to right, kneelers. Rear to
left of wing has 2-light casement at ground floor and under eaves of different
sizes; to right, catslide roof and tall narrow 2-storey addition in brick, C20
door and 2 windows at ground floor, first floor of addition has 2-light casement
with segmental head. Rear wing has to left two 2-light casements at ground floor
and one under eaves, to right, 2-light casement at ground floor and one under
eaves, single-storey lean to at rear with double-Roman tiled roof and door,
curved open projection and gable stack. Interior: front range has 2 rooms to
right, of original house, formerly with passage along rear; through passage and
end room to left. Front right room has framed ceiling of 4 panels with roll
moulding and hollow chamfer to beams, rear beam has mortices for former screen,
wall-plate on rear wall with deep chamfer, stone fireplace with moulded and
stopped jambs. Central room has similar 4-panel framed ceiling and moulded wall-
plates, lower moulded beam to rear, fine fireplace backing on to passage, heavy
timber lintel about 3 metres long, with cusped trefoil-headed carved panel to end
right, missing to left, stone jambs and oven recess to left, moulded mantel;
winder stair to rear of centre room. Through passage has stone-flagged floor,
narrower chamfered beams. Rear kitchen has narrow chamfered beams, heavy timber
lintel to fireplace with stone jambs, C19 cast iron oven door. At first floor
only 3 principal members visible, roof not accessible but said to contain 2 smoke-
