II Marked on O.S. as Convalescent House. Rectory, then convalescent home now
house in multiple occupation. Mid C19 with some later alterations. Snecked
rock-faced limestone rubble with limestone and sandstone dressings, slate roof.
L-plan; asymmetrical Gothic style. Front of 2 storeys and 4 bays, ground floor
windows have ogee-headed lights, first floor pointed arched lights; from left,
4-light mullion and transom window with stopped hood mould, 3-light window above
with continuous hood mould and relieving arch, quatrefoil in gable with raised
coped verges and kneelers, chamfered and broached walls with diagonal buttress to
left; 2nd bay canted, with 5-light mullion and transom window, lintel string
course, similar smaller window at first floor with cill string, corbelled eaves to
hipped roof over bay; 3rd bay has pointed arched door in moulded surround with
hood mould and mask stops, relieving arch, 2 string courses above with 2 blank
shields between, 2-light pointed arched window with cusped tracery, hood mould and
relieving arch, tower above has trefoil with hood mould and relieving arch,
corbelled eaves and hipped roof; 4th bay canted as in 2nd, 2 string courses
continued across, chamfered and broached wall with diagonal buttress to right and
trefoil in gable; limestone quoins and sandstone relieving arches. Right return
has external stack to left, two 2-light pointed arched cusped windows with hood
mould and mask stops, pointed arched door to right in moulded surround with
similar hood mould, 2 mullion and transom windows at first floor and 2 C20 windows.
Left return has corbelled external stack to right and gable stack to left with
gargoyles; ground floor has 4-light and 3-light window with pointed arched heads,
plain surround and relieving arch, 3-light ogee-headed window to right with centre
light lowered for C20 door; first floor has 4 windows of varied sizes, gable end
to left has trefoil, continuous hood mould from first floor right window and cill
string; single storey service wing attached to left with coped wall. Rear has
varied windows including large 3-light window with Perpendicular tracery lighting
stair, 2-storey rear wing with pointed arched door, and 3-light window with
segmental head, 2 C20 windows at first floor; rear in snecked sandstone rubble.
