Details
SE 10 NE STATION ROAD Kirkburton 8/100 No. 14 (Croft Head Farm) 23rd June 1965 (formerly listed as Croft Head Farmhouse and out- building) G.V. II
House, part of group. C17, but greatly altered in the late C18, and containing timber framing probably of the C15. Coursed rubble with quoins. Stone slate roof. Two storeys. The main elevation has late C18 openings, but the near-central doorway has reset triangular lintel with raised lettering: TM 1620 WM GOD : BLESS : THIS : HOUSE AND . THEM. THAT DWELL . THERE IN To left is 3-light window and to right are 2-light window, both with mullions removed. Four 2-light windows to 1st floor. To right gable is central projecting stack, to the left of which is a 2-light double chamfered window, and to the right is a 3-light window to each floor, both double chamfered, and a tiny chamfered light. Outshut to rear with recent stone porch.
Interior: The wall between the house and outshut is timber-framed with 2 visible posts, an intermediate rail and close studding. The posts are arch-braced to the arcade plate all with pegged joints. A former doorway in the stud wall is part blocked. At 90° is part of a truss with housings on its underside for further studding. The main room has stop-chamfered beams which are scarf-jointed at the point where a bressumer would have been. The end bay has a moulded fireplace surround, corresponding to the projecting stack. Further studding to 1st floor.
