with handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays aligned approximately NE-SW, aspect NW.
Axial chimney stack in second bay from NE, forming a lobby-entrance. Chimney
stack to rear of SW bay with short 2-storey wing beyond. Stair tower to rear of
axial chimney stack. Lean-to garderobe extension to NE of stair tower. Single
storey bakehouse/brewhouse extension NE of garderobe, with end chimney stack,
C19. Single storey lean-to extension between stair tower and SW wing, patent
metal glazing with roof of handmade red clay tiles. 2 storeys. 4-panel door,
glazed in upper panels under shallow hood, C19. Ground floor, 3 early C19
double-hung sash windows of 16 lights and one C20 casement window. First
floor, 3 early c19 double-hung sash windows of 16 lights and one of 12 lights
over door. Axial chimney stack has inscribed letters HE at base (whose origin
has not been determined) and 6 grouped octagonal shafts. Some framing exposed
internally. Jowled posts, heavy studding with curved tension bracing trenched
inside studs. Plain chamfered axial beam in lower NE room with step stops and
bar. In same room, hearth with depressed arch, formerly plastered, now exposed,
arch repaired. At rear of room above, unglazed window with 3 diamond mullions,
complete. in upper room to sw of axial chimney stack, early C17 hearth with
depressed arch, elaborately moulded jambs with diamonds at base, original
plaster. C19 cast iron casement window at upper level of stair tower. C17
pine panelling with cockshead hinges at head of stair. Moated site. RCHM 6.
