20/15 Old harbour wall
II
Harbour wall, probably C18. Large squared stone with coping of large irregular slabs. Wall 0.8 metre high runs west from Garden Terrace then turns north alongside tidal flats; this section 1.8 metres high externally and 0.8 metre internally. Final section turns westwards and then north again, and has rebuilt upper part with gabled coping, ending in rough ramp-down. Overall length 250 metres.
Included for historic interest as Alnmouth was an important corn port in the C18; the harbour became silted up after a flood in 1806 when the Aln changed its course.
