Little Stubbings, dovecote and

and barn at Stubbings Manor Farm. II Two barns and dovecote, now part house and part disused barn. C18, altered early and
late C20. Timber frame, weatherboarded, old tile gabled roofs. L-plan, one barn of
8 framed bays, running west to east, the other barn at right angles at the east end of
5 framed bays, running north to south. Tall dovecote of square plan, adjoining west
end. Dovecote: now a dwelling is of painted weatherboarding, with slight gabled projections
at front and rear; the former with pigeon holes. Double row of pigeon holes to all 4
sides below eaves. Round windows at first floor level to front, with geometrical glazing.
Pyramidal tiled roof with delicate iron weathervane. North front: irregular. Large
pair of plank doors to garage on left. Two pairs of fixed casements on right of doors,
a large 4-light window with bars and then a pair of opening casements with a ledged,
braced and framed barn door each side. To right of this, 2, one-light casements, bars
in top section and a pair of doors in bottom. French casements at right end. Interior:
8-bay barn has queen post roof, 2 sets of butt purlins, curved braces and jowled posts;
4 bays are now used as part of the house. The interior of the 5-bay disused barn adjoining
on east, has a queen post roof, one set of butt purlins, straight braces and jowled posts,
and is probably later. The entrance to the house is contained in an early to mid C20
brick extension adjoining and to the right of the bellcote, and is of no special interest.
