Details
FOBNEY STREET 1. 5128 Simmonds Malthouse SU 7172 13/481A II 2. Said to date from the 1850s and the architect to have been one of the Briants. Red brick with overlapped eaves cornice. 2 gables to south with hipped roofs and vents at north end. Modern entrance to north-east. South end has cast iron tie rods on 2 stages to south and 4 stages to east, with hops in pattern. Small segmental headed windows on ground floor and in upper part. West side 3 bays with dividing piers, 2 bays with hop leaf tie rods. Slate hipped roof. A plain but impressive building, joined on north side to later malthouse. Interior entered from east in segmental headed wide entrance, lower floors altered.
