in the churchyard, between about 3 &
8m south of south wall of south
transept Church of St Mary GV II Two pedestal, one chest tomb and one headstone. All of stone.
Pedestal tomb to various Hill children, 2 called Ann, died 1785,
1796; 2 others. Low, weathered top, step, weathered edge to lid,
moulded edge, leaf frieze; raised ovals with corner paterae to
sides, moulded base. To south unidentified circa 1800 pedestal
tomb: weathered top, step, moulded edge to lid, raised rectangle
to each side, moulded top to plinth, all on large square stone
base. Inscription weathered off. To south unidentified mid C18
chest tomb, flat lid, moulded edge; quarter square, gadrooned
corner balusters; rococo carving originally on south side, fielded
panel on north, sunk panel on west, coat of arms in relief on east:
moulded base. Inscription on lid may refer to Robert Hall. To
east between last 2 a headstone, John Hill, died 1744, cambered
top, cherub's head with wings, swag below, corner flowers, pendant
drapery down sides; good lettering, with long 's': well
preserved.
