House. C15, C17 and C18. Ashlar, coursed squared stone, graduated stone
slate roof. 2 storeys. Left-hand wing, C15 and C18, 2 bays. Central wing
C15 and C17 of 2 bays. Right-hand C17 gabled wing, 2 bays. To rear a much
altered C17 wing. Central wing. A board door set in moulded segmental head
surround, above a hoodmould with semicircular pediment with a mask at the

head, in the pediment a tablet bearing the date 6 9. To right a small

square window. Inside the doorway an inner doorway C15, moulded with lead
pointing and head shaped like a W, with rounded angles. In right-hand bay,
set back, a wagon board door set in a chamfered surround with a segmental
arch. Left-hand wing: raised quoins to left. All windows are tripartite
with plain stone surrounds. Shaped kneelers, stone coping, end stacks with
2 diagonally set shafts. Right-hand gabled wing breaks forward. 9 steps up
to first floor. Central board door in moulded chamfered segmental headed
surround, above is a circular opening, hoodmould stepped with 3 round arched
pigeon holes above, above the central one, another hole. Ground floor. To
right a casement in a chamfered surround with a stepped chamfered pattern to
lintel, hoodmould. First floor: square windows flank the door, lintel
stones decorated with 2 chamfered semicircles, hoodmoulds, above each 3
round arched pigeon holes. Shaped kneelers, stone coping. Interior: a
fireplace inscribed 'R 1696 T'. A doorway, probably part of the original
C15 house. History: a monastic grange to Bolton Priory.
