Details
EAST WORLINGTON SS 71 SE 8/10 Riverview Cottage - GV II (Incorrectly marked on OS map as Milltown Cottage). House. Early C17 but may be a remodelling of an earlier house. Cob and rubble, colourwashed, gabled straw- thatched roof; 2 stacks, one to the upper end brick, and a rendered off-ridge hall stack. Plan: 3-room and through-passage plan, lower end to right for a time used as an outbuilding, reincorporated into the house circa 1980, through-passage blocked at that time; hall with axial stack backing onto former passage, inner room with gable- end fireplace. Exterior: single storey and attic, 2:2 windows, small casements with close-set glazing bars, 3 of which C19, remainder replaced in conforming style C20. 2 inserted door openings, one into inner room and one at lower end, C20 doors. Roadside elevation in conforming style, small C19 casements, wooden lintels are exposed. Interior of central hall with lateral chamfered stepped-stopped ceiling beam, fireplace with chamfered beam, C19 oven. Inner room with fireplace, with a cambered chamfered lintel. Roof: with 2 old trusses, one over hall and one over low side of through-passage; one over hall with notched lap-jointed collar, morticed apex, one over passage with mortices for collar, collar now missing; purlins resting on backs of principals; C18 roof over the lower end.
