Former stables and coach house, now offices and workshop. 1808 for
Sir B.W. Guise. Plain rendered walls, ashlar parapet and cast-iron
railings, slate roof. 'U'-plan, square courtyard, semi-circular
railings to forecourt. Two storeys. Square ashlar gate piers,
plinth, blind arch to each face, moulded cornice, panelled corner
blocks with crenellations between: gates missing. Each side
railings on stone cap to low brick wall sweep back to wings of
stable block. Ends of wings plain. Left side courtyard, ground
floor, 6 blind alternating narrow and wide semi-circular arches,
plain stone impost blocks: narrow arches contain inset boarded
doors, semi-circular cast-iron fanlights; wide arches semi-
circular cast-iron windows, stone sills. End opening wide, boarded
door. Main cross block paired double, boarded doors with cambered
heads each side, 3-light window with cambered head centre, 4-
panelled door to right. Right return 4 arches as left, front arch
blind; paired double doors on right. First floor plain stone
string course, 6 semi-circular arches to wings, 5 to centre block,
inset cast-iron windows, except right wing, inset 3-light wooden
casements. Crenellated parapet above with moulded string course,
hipped roof. Centre of cross wing carried up as turret with clock
face, low, pyramid roof behind crenellations, weathervane on apex.
Forms group with Highnam Court and church (q.v.).
