9/112 Four cattle shelter sheds with open yards and adjoining granary with cart shed immediately east of Tithe Barn

GV II

Shelter sheds and granary with cart shed. c1850, possibly by Benjamin Bucknall for William Leigh. Random rubble limestone; clay pantile roof. Four shelter sheds stand in pairs, south east facing with yards between. Five-bay cart shed abuts one yard on north east side. C20 concrete block yard walls and steel-framed covered yards are not of special interest. All blocks have parapet gabled ends, off-centre shouldered arched doorways onto dividing passage. Five bay arcade to westernmost sheds, 4-bay to others, all with chamfered segmental pointed arches. Buttressed gable ends to granary, loft doorway at south east end reached by stone steps; quatrefoil vent above. A good example of Cl9 farm buildings grouping well with the adjacent tithe barn (q.v.). (Illustrated before construction of covered yards in Country Life, 20th May 1905)
