GV II

Farmhouse; early C19; Flemish bond brickwork, slate roof. Five windows wide, 2 rooms deep, 3 storeys: 2-storey rear wing. Symmetrical front, facing south to garden: all set slightly off- centre to right. Brick plinth: entrance up 2 stone steps, top half door glazed, bottom fielded panels, semi-circular fanlight, panelled reveals, fluted pilasters carry open pediment. Either side two 8-pane sashes, flush boxes; rendered lintel in shape of flat rubbed-brick arch. First floor 5 similar windows, second floor shallow windows, sashes 2 panes each only, brick-on-edge above. Dentil eaves, hipped, single-span roof. Plain, tall chimneys project from end walls, 1 on left, 2 on right. Tall stair window to rear, sash, semi-circular head, intersecting glazing bars. Panelled shutters to ground floor windows; some 6-panelled doors internally; little linen fold panelling in left rear room, ground floor. Rebuilt following fire in 1802. Glazing-bar pattern to garden front unaltered since 1910. (D.Verey,Gloucestershire, The Vale and the Forest of Dean, 1970, sale catalogue of Newent Court Estate, 1910).
