GV II House. Mid C16, stack inserted late C16; stack enlarged, extended slightly to
right and reroofed late C17, altered C19 and C20. Timber frame, plastered.
Steeply pitched pantiled roof. 3 cell cross passage plan. 2 storeys. Ground
floor: lobby entrance to right of centre in a C20 gabled porch with a 4
centred arch over a studded door, brick nogging, leaded lights, flanking 4-
light transomed glazing bar casements, to left or service bay a 3-light
transomed glazing bar casement, all with hoodboards. First floor centre and
right part opening 9 pane metal frame casements, transomed 3 lights to left.
Stack in front of ridge between hall and parlour, enlarged to right. Right
end French windows. Left end C17 consoles to exposed plates, a C20 external
stack in a lean-to outshut. To rear a break in wall to upper bay of hall
reflecting late C16 alterations, 2 small lean-to outshuts. Interior: close
studding, hall has complex arrangement of moulded ceiling beams probably
reflecting removal of smoke hood and reorganisation of upper bay with
insertion of stack, at lower end and along front are original embattled roll
and hollow moulded beams, a similar beam to rear replaced in upper bay with a
simpler roll moulded beam, quirked wave moulded beams across upper end, as a
cross axial binding beam and an axial binding beam in upper bay, rebated roll
moulded joists, reset in upper bay. Parlour has a quirked wave moulded axial
binding beam, chamfered fireplace bressumer, later framing to right end wall.
Service end reused jewel stopped beam on end wall. First floor arched braces
to cambered tie beams, some removed. Coupled rafter roof appears to be all
C17, smoke blackened by leaking stack.
