TAYNTON SP2313 10/174 Strong House 12/09/55 (Formerly listed as Nos. 16 and 17) GV II*

House. Dated 1676 to datestone above central door. Coursed squared stone; stone slate roof with coped gables; stone end stacks. 2 storeys and attic; 2-window range. C20 panelled door to centre with moulded stone surround. 3-light stone mullion windows to left and right with continuous hood mould. 3-light stone mullion windows to first floor left and right with continuous hood would. Coped cross-gables to left and right with decorative finials, having 2-light stone mullion windows with hood moulds. Wing to left: C17. Coursed stone; stone slate roof; stone ridge stack to left of centre, end stack to right. Single storey and attic; 2-window range. Irregular fenestration. Interior not inspected. History: Built by Thomas Strong, Sir Christopher Wren's master mason at St. Paul's Cathedral. ("The Book of Taynton", anonymous undated guide book)
