Details

WOOLASTON GENERAL ST 59 NE 10/265 Monument to William Smart in the churchyard c 12 metres south east of the south east corner of the aisle of the Church of St Andrew GV II* Chest tomb. 1666. Sandstone. Thick flat top to moulded edge, sunk enriched panels, base sunk at time of survey, September 1983. At east end in heavy and crude raised lettering 'AS 1666' and west end 'WS 1680', elsewhere lettering in good capitals including 'William Smart 1680'. One of two very fine early monuments, c 2 metres south of monument to daughter of William Smart (qv).
