II House consisting of hall and cross-wing. Late C16 with C19
additions. Timber-framed and plastered, red brick, peg and
clay tiled roofs. Plan L shaped. One and a half and 2 storeys.
Front E elevation: principal range with N end cross-wing,
ground floor brick, rendered and ashlar lined, timber above,
similarly rendered. Cross-wing gable and first floor, C20
tile-hung. C19 barge-boards above. Stack at junction of units
with lower C17 brickwork, upper rebuilt. Ground floor, 4
casement windows and C20 boarded door. First floor, one
cross-wing window, one gabled dormer window (one and a half
storey system). Shadow of strutted framing below dormer
suggests possible raising of roof eaves. Rear W elevation:
principal range has deep outshut with catslide roof with small
extra extension to W at S end. C19 walling of random bricks
and cobbles, 2 single and one 2-light casement windows, 3 C20
roof lights. Principal stack at N end adjacent to cross-wing.
Cross-wing roof line shows 2 builds, rear section added in mid
C19 brick with timber-framed first floor jettied to yard (S).
Exterior stack at W end with C19 deep barge-boards. S side,
ground floor, boarded door and 3-light casement window,
2-light casement on first floor. W end, one ground floor and 2
first floor casement windows. N side elevation: long range
with central building break. To E, ground floor pargetted with
end of brick walling under E front evident. 3-light window.
First floor, tile-hung as front, simple casement window. To
rear of centre, ground floor brick, fan pargetted framing
above with simple casement window. S end elevation: gabled end
with outshut to W. Ground floor brick rendered, 3 casement
windows, doorway in outshut. C19 boarded door. C20 gabled
trellis porch. First floor, 3-light casement window with
glazing bars, centre round headed in `Venetian' style.
INTERIOR: framing elements of late C16 hall, central arched
braced tie-beam truss of cross-wing clear, together with once
jettied joists to street frontage, now underbuilt. Hall
extended to S c1800 in primary braced framing, first floor
doorway forced through original S end wall and tie-beam for
attic accommodation. Principal ground floor fireplace at
junction of units, facing hall, timber lintel, C17 brickwork,
(some repairs). Early repairs in house framing have forelock
bolts.
