House. Mid/later C19, said to be built in 1850, enlarged 1890.
Stuccoed brick, slate roof. Irregular plan of original L-shape
with rear wing, plus narrower rear addition. 2 storeys attic
and cellar.
Front, N elevation: principal 2 window range, stack behind
roof apex. Gabled cross-wing projects slightly at W end with
single windows, plain clasping pilaster buttresses projecting,
eaves have consoles and console brackets, bold gable
barge-boards. Windows have moulded architraves, eared in first
floor and with rosette decorated ribbons over on ground floor.
All window have consoles. Central doorway, similarly decorated
with rosettes, frieze under flat hood and on simple capitals
of pilasters, overlight, door of 4 panels, upper 2 glazed.
Windows to E, sashes with all-round margin lights, to W, C19
rectangular bay window inserted with dentilled cornice,
sashes, front window has margin lights. First floor window
similar with side margin lights only. Attic window in
cross-wing, round headed, rosettes on imposts, 2 panes.
E elevation, to South Road: gable of principal range to N with
2-storeyed bay window. Single window range to S, with further
narrower 2 window range wing seen behind to S. All similar to
N elevation but plainer. N-S, bay window, hipped roof, 3-cant,
plain sash windows, centre ones with margin lights. Adjacent
window to S similar. Rear wing to S, ground floor, 2 casement
windows with glazing bars, one 3-light, 6x4 panes, one single
light 3x4 panes. First floor, single sash window with all
round margin lights.
W end elevation: flank wall of N-S wing with 2 partially
external stacks. Ground floor windows, 2 sashes with glazing
bars, 3x4 panes, one 3x2 panes. First floor, 4 similar sashes
with side margin lights. C19 addition to S inset and lower.
Ground floor, central French window, fully glazed, 4x5 panes
each side, C20 2-light casement 4x3 panes. First floor, one
sash window with margin lights, one C20 2-light, top-opening
casement window.
S rear elevation: principal range behind with, E and W, 2
projecting gabled wings. W wing has further additional gabled
addition projecting between wings, narrow gap with back
doorway, overlight and bead-moulded, flush, 4 panelled door.
Above, single first floor sash window with all round margin
lights. Gable to E has bold barge-board. Ground floor has
large C20 fixed pane 3-light window.
INTERIOR: drawing room and dining room have good contemporary
marble chimney-pieces, grey and black respectively. 2
cast-iron chimney-pieces, one decorated, in bedrooms. Window
shutters remain including one lifting shutter in dining room.
