Terrace of 13 town houses. c.1830, in 4 builds (Nos.2 to 7 in
3 pairs, Nos.8 to 12A and No.1 Porter Place in one); altered.
Double-depth plan, each house single-fronted and with a long
back extension. Two storeys with cellars and attics, each
house 3 bays except No.1 Porter Place at south end which
presents only 2 bays to Bushell Place; continuous plain frieze
and moulded gutter cornice. Doorways to the left (except
No.12A, and No.1 Porter Place), up 2 steps; each has a Tuscan
doorcase with engaged columns, plain frieze and moulded
cornice, plain jambs with imposts, and elliptical fanlight
(with radiating glazing bars at Nos. 2 to 5, 8, 10, and 12A,
leaded glazing at No.12, plain glazing at the others), 6-panel
doors at Nos.2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 10 (others altered). At ground
floor each house has a canted bay window of stone (added
between 1847 and 1857), with unhorned 4-pane sashed glazing
(except No.2 which has modern plastic windows on both floors),
moulded cornice and blocking course; windows at 1st floor have
raised sills and wedge lintels (the sills of those over the
ground-floor bays mostly slightly settled), and are mostly
sashed without glazing bars (Nos.10, 12, and 12A have 12-pane
sashes). Ridge chimney stacks, those of Nos.12 and 12A
coupled; roof ridge of No.12A higher than the rest. No.1
Porter Place, which is the returned south end of the terrace
with a long continuation to the rear, has a blind window near
the front corner at 1st floor, but is otherwise 3 storeys and
5 bays; doorway in 1st bay (up 3 steps) has a pedimented
architrave with Adam-style enrichment, and fanlight with
radiating glazing bars; 4 windows at ground floor (boarded at
time of survey), 12-pane sashes at 1st floor and 8-pane sashes
at 2nd floor, all with raised sills and wedge lintels. Rear:
individual back extensions, some 3-storeyed. INTERIORS:
stick-baluster staircases, moulded plaster cornices, etc.
