St. Aldam's Ash Farmhouse II Farmhouse. C17, with C19 and later alterations and additions. Coursed limestone
rubble, ashlar porch, stone dressings, rendered at right return and rear, double
Roman tiled roof with brick gable stack to right. L-plan, former cross passage.
2 storeys and 3 windows, not symmetrical, all 3-light casements with ovolo
mullions and dripstone, central C19 gabled porch, C20 outer door, 4-panelled and
glazed inner door, first floor has two 3-light and one 2-light similar casements.
Left return has ground and first floor 3-light casement, 2-light at attic, as on
front; 2-storey rear wing has ground floor 2-light casement (formerly door in
ashlar surround) and first floor 3-light window as on front, C20 lean-to porch.
Rear of rear wing has large single storey pebbledashed extension, C20 window in
gable end above, lean-to attached to left; at rear of main-house, 2-storey stair
turret with small C20 window at first floor and 2-light casement with leaded
lights, wooden mullion and frame in gable. Interior: in rear wing under stack,
a large blocked fireplace with oven curve, heavy chamfered beam, plank and batten
door; front right room has wide fireplace with oven recess; winder stair in
turret to attic level, plank and batten doors with strap hinges; 5 bays of roof
visible, principal rafters, 2 rows of purlins, ridge purlin and plated yoke, 3 bays
of rear wing and 2 bays of stair turret of similar construction. Listing NGR: ST7046077297
