Manor House. Mid C16 (north range), early-mid C17 (main front), mid
C18 refashioning of north range, modern alterations. Ashlar stone
walls, stone slab and slate roofs. Stone gable-copings. Square and
spiral stone stacks on ridge, and north gable-end. Main front, early
C17. 2 storeys with attics. 7 windows, 2-light mullion-and-transom
type with square heads, (ovolo moulds). End bays are projecting and
3-sided, with same features. Stone balustraded parapet, probably
C18. 3 C20 dormers, with hipped roofs. Projecting, two-storey porch
at centre, with altered outer archway (depressed-arch). Achievement-
of-arms of Brodrepp over,and 2-light window above this. Side-walls of
the porch each have two internal niches with shell-heads. Scratched
initials and date R.B. (Richards Brodrepp) 1666. Re-set C16 inner
doorway: moulded jambs and depressed arch in a square head. Morgan
crest in the spandrels. North range, c.1500 by Robert Morgan,
refashioned north wall, c.1760. South wall has 3- and 4-light stone
mullions, with 4-centred heads. Top window of 4-lights is a gabled
dormer, with twisted pinnacles, possibly C19. Clasping octagonal
buttresses at corners of the range, with spiral pinnacles, with griffin
and lion terminals. North wall, refaced and given sashes with moulded
architraves. Centre bay brought forward, cutting the C16 plinth
mouldings. 5 bays total. Doorway at centre, with moulded architrave
and volute brackets with pediment over. South-east block, formerly
detached, C17, with modern attachments to house. Service-buildings.
Same details: of 2-light mullions with separate labels. Service
doorway with corridor through, from south wall. C20 walling, and
muniment room links Dining Room to Chancel of church. Interior: kitchen
wing at rear of C17 house, large open fireplace with straight-chamfered
jambs and depressed arch head. Dining Room: bolection-moulded
Panelling with heavy entablature and cornice. Similarly moulded stone
fireplace. Former external doorway, C17, with oak draw-bar. Entrance,
passage with C17 screenwork with large baluster posts altered by
insertion of modern doorways. Hall: early C17 artwented panelling.
Fireplace with moulded jambs and depressed-arch head, early C17. Plaster
overmantel brought from Melplash in 1909. opining into north-west
bay-window, stone, round arch with panelled keystone, responds and Ionic
pilasters. Drawing Room: bolection-moulded panelling, early C18. Mid
Cl8 fireplace with rococo scrollwork and birds. Important late C16
ceiling, of geometrical rib design, with fleur-de-lis and coats-of-arms.
Room over Drawing Room, with important pendant plaster ceiling. Stair
Hall, north wing, later C18.
