ST 67 NE WESTERLEIGH C.P. CHURCH ROAD (south side)
4/337 The Old Stores G.V. II Row of 3 houses, now one house. House to left and right of C17 origin, to right
dated TIS/1686 on plaster overmantel, with early C19 house built between, C20
alterations and additions. Rubble, rendered, pantiled roofs with some double
Roman tiles to rear. House to right extends to rear forming L-plan. From left,
2½ storeys and one window, ground and first floor 3-light casement, small single
light at ground floor right, steep gable rising to ridge height, with 2-light
casement; central house of 2 storeys and 2 windows, all C20, door with flat stone
hood on brackets; to right, 2 storeys and one window, two 9-pane sashes at ground
floor (to left formerly door) first floor has large gable rising from outer walls
to ridge height, with 2-light casement, all C20. Right return has 2 windows at
ground floor, both 3-light casements, to right with wooden ovolo mullions. Left
return has 2-light casement at ground and first floor, single light at attic in
gable end. Rear has extensive single storey C20 additions, rear of house to left
has gable as on front with single light; 2 storey rear wing of house to right has
French window and 2-light casement at first floor of inner side. Interior: house
to right has former external door at ground floor with chamfered segmental head,
blocked stair light to right; front room has fireplace with timber lintel with
band of carved decoration, oven recess to left with C20 window inserted, spice
cupboard with butterfly hinges and moulded surround to door, chamfered beams.
Rear room has chamfered and stopped beam, fireplace in outer corner with cambered
lintel. Newel stair. First floor front room has fireplace with dated plaster
overmantel with fleur-de-lys decoration. House to right has fireplace with
cambered lintel at ground floor, chamfered and stopped beams; 2 bays of roof
visible with principal rafters and one row of purlins, beams badly burned. (Sources:
