SX9256SE THE QUAY, Lower Brixham 1946-1/11/230 (East side) Turnpike stone on inner edge of pavement, under Old Fish Market

GV II

Turnpike stone. About 1838. Short, round-headed piece of Devonian limestone, its west face incised with the inscription END OF THE DARTMOUTH & TORQUAY TURNPIKE. The stone appears to be in roughly its original position; it was certainly there before the Old Fish Market was rebuilt in late C20.
