Pair of attached houses. c1813. Black stucco with limestone dressings, party wall stacks and a pantile roof. Double-depth plan. Late Georgian style. Each of 3 storeys; 3-window range. A near symmetrical pair articulated by giant pilaster strips to a moulded coping, wide flutes to the party wall, and outer entrance bays, that to the right set back, with the rising ground placing the entrance on the first floor. Left-hand doorway has battered, eared architrave, plate-glass overlight and 6-panel door; right-hand late C19 semicircular-arched doorway with a bowed architrave of large reeds, impost blocks with roundels and a key, plate-glass fanlight and 6-panel door, with a good wrought-iron tented porch with lattice sides. Basement doorway below. Outer semicircular-arched windows, inner flat-headed, with 2/2-pane sashes to the left, plate-glass to the right, and 6/6-panes to the right-hand entrance bay. INTERIOR: No.3, entrance hall with a stone flight of stairs up to a landing, with wrought-iron balusters and curled decoration; first-floor landing with a pair of semicircular-arched openings, left-hand 6/6-pane sash, right-hand half-glazed door; landing has an elliptical arch to a lateral open dogleg stair with stick balusters, curtail, ramped, wreathed, banded rail; cornice and shutters. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached front garden rubble walls with rusticated ashlar piers, urn finials and wrought-iron gates.
