Shown on Ordnance Survey map as No.25. Rectory, now 2 houses. Built c.1578 for Sir William Petre; altered c.1700; range to right built c.1840 for William Hall, brewer. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings; gabled stone slate roof with artificial stone slates and concrete tiles to rear; external lateral stack of stone finished in 2 diagonal-set flues to left and similar C19 ridge and end stacks to right. Late C16 two-unit plan, extended to right c.1840 to make double-depth plan flanked by gabled cross-wings. Tudor style. 2 storeys and attic; 5-window range, with gabled fronts to end bays. Moulded stone plinths. Hood mould over five-panelled door set in moulded stone architrave with sunk spandrels. Hood moulds over 2-light and 5-light hollow-moulded stone-mullioned arched windows with sunk spandrels. Late Cl6 gable end to left has similar late C16 two-, 5- and 6-light windows; late C16 sundial to top left. Left side wall has similar late C16 two-, and 3-light windows and stair-turret with similar one-light windows and reset Norman one-light window. Mid C19 range to rear has hood moulds over 2-light hollow-moulded stone-mullioned windows. Interior: c.1840 extension has mid C19 fireplaces and panelled doors. Front room has late C16 moulded beams and hollow-chamfered joists, and late C15 panelling; timber-framed partition to rear. Room to rear has similar beams and joists, C17 ribbed door and C18 panelled door; c.1700 dog-leg with landing staircase with barley-twist balusters. First floor: late C16 stone fireplace with ovolo-moulded architrave; two timber-framed partitions and chamfered beams; late C17 moulded plaster cornice and plaster panel with 1578 date in rear room. Four-bay collar-truss roof with clasped purlins, curved wind braces and reused C13 timbers with lap joints. Subsidiary features: C18 walls of limestone rubble with stone slate roof and attached outbuildings of similar materials with lean-to and gabled roofs attached to right.
