3/148 Aldwincle Lodge (to south of Wadenhoe Great Wood)

GV II

Farmhouse. Mid/late C18 with C19 alterations. Coursed squared stone with graded stone slate roof with stone coped gables and moulded stone and brick end stacks. Central-staircase plan with wings to rear. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. High projecting plinth. Central 4-panel door up steps has overlight under stone flat arch. Above is a 2-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window with tiny lunette window under eaves.Either side is a 2-storey canted 5-light hollow-moulded stone mullion bay window with one ovolo-moulded mullion to right 1st floor. Leaded roofs. Bays may be contemporary or later re-settings. On left end are blocked cellar doorway, C19 lst floor window and 2 attic casements. Brick lean-to and 2 attic casements on right end. Contemporary single-storey and mid C19 2-storey wings to rear together with further lean-to. Interior. Mid/late C15 staircase with turned balusters, 2-panel doors, fitted corner cupboard, 2 open. fireplaces one with moulded shelf and cupboards either side, the other with probably early C19 brick arch. Spine beams, one to lst floor with ogee stops is re-used. Trenched purlin roof mainly original.
