2/178 The Hermitage and enclosing garden wall at the front - II

Detached house. C17, altered C18 and C19. Rubble with freestone dressings; slate roof with coped raised verges and ashlar stacks. L-plan and 2 storeys, attics and cellars. The main part has two single and 2-light casement windows, in ovolo moulded and chamfered mullions and surrounds, some under dripmoulds. Central gabled, projecting porch raised above the cellar and approached by a flight of steps; segmental headed outer doorway. Single storey and basement extension setback at right, with one glazing bar sash window. At the left is a projecting wing of 2 bays with the outer one at a lower height: 2-light casement windows in moulded mullions and surrounds and under dripmoulds; the two at the left have cinquefoil and trefoil heads; the south gable end has 2 glazing bar sash windows on the ground floor. Enclosing garden wall to the front of ashlar, arcaded with a moulded cornice.
