Monument and group of 4 headstones. C17 and C18. (a) Prior monument: Chest tomb, C18. Ham stone with lias stone panels;
base buried; single panels each end and two each flank, with reeded pilasters having Ionic capitals; no frieze; moulded
coping to hipped top. Commemorates Anne Prior, died 1780, and others. (b) Headstones, starting with the northernmost:
(i) Pryor monument: Headstone, C18. Ham stone slab, about 800mm wide x 1 metre high, chamfered back; segmental-arched
top, enclosing angel head, scroll sides and scroll frame. Commemorates Thomas Pryor, died 1769, and Joan his wife. (ii)
Raesen monument: Headstone, C17. Ham stone, about 650mm wide x 450 mm high, chamfered back: shouldered segmental-arched
head, the panel having imposts, keystone and toothing, similar to the panels of many chest tombs of this date.
Commemorates John Raesen, died 1670, and his wife: another of the earliest surviving headstones in this part of
Somerset. (iii) Pryor Monument: Headstone, C18. Ham stone slab, about 950mm wide x 1 metre high, chamfered back;
virtually flat top, but with 2 semi-circular panels enclosing angels, with skull in spandril and scrolls to sides,
central part drop of ornamental frame. Commemorates Thomas Pryor, Elizabeth his wife, died 177-, and their son thomas,
died 1757. (iv) Unidentified monument. Headstone, C18. Ham stone slab, about 550mm wide x 500 mm high, flat top and
plain, with incised border: inscription generally not readable, but death date 1711.
