with early and mid C20 alterations and additions. Brick with
rendered left return, ashlar dressings and slate roofs with 6
gable and 4 side wall stacks.
EXTERIOR: 3 and 2 storeys; 4 window range. Office block
fronting street, with workshops at the rear forming an
incomplete quadrilateral. Office block has plinth and
sillbands to each floor, and openings with multi-keystone
lintels, all painted. Gutter on shaped wooden brackets. Three
12 pane sashes and to right, a larger tripartite sash. Above,
four 9 pane sashes, the second one blank. Off-centre
segment-arched cart opening with header brick arch and stone
cornice. On the frieze, the inscription "James Lodge Ltd.". To
left, two 12 pane sashes, the lower lights blocked. To right,
a doorway with eared architrave and cornice, with moulded 4
panel door and overlight. To its right, a 12 pane sash. At the
rear, the office block has four 12 pane sashes and above, six
C20 windows.
Workshop block to left of courtyard, mid C19, 3 storeys; 3
window range. Three 3-light glazing bar casements with slight
segmental heads. Above, 3 similar casements with flat heads.
Ground floor has 2 similar casements with altered glazing and
to right, a similar casement with a double board door inserted
below it.
Block to rear of courtyard, late C19, 3 storeys; 7 window
range. First floor has central door flanked by single windows,
and to left, 2 more windows, all reglazed. To right, an
adjoining building covering part of the front. Above, 7
windows arranged 2:3:2. All are 2-light glazing bar casements
with slightly segmental heads, the 3 to left reglazed. Ground
floor has a near central double board door and to right, 2
large segment-headed glazing bar casements, all under a flat
canopy. To left, an adjoining single storey office building,
linked to the main block by a flat-roofed addition.
Right block, 2 storeys; 4 window range. Mid C19 brick ground
floor with early C20 concrete first floor. 4 wooden glazing
bar casements and below, a double board door flanked to left
by a 3-light casement and to right by a door and window with
overlight. To right, a mid C19 block, 2 storeys; 2 window
range. Single plain sash, and to its right a larger 12 pane
sash. Below, a small door.
INTERIORS: rear range has central stone stair and wooden
floors carried on cast-iron columns.
