No.3 GV II House, now flats. c1850, remodelled c1875-81. By Watson
Fothergill of Nottingham. Red brick, with blue brick and
ashlar dressings, timber framing with patterned brick nogging,
and slate roofs of various forms. 7 tall panelled side wall
stacks. Domestic Revival style.
Plinth and first floor band. Windows are plain sashes and
casements, mainly with wooden cross frames. 2 and 3 storeys
plus attics; 3 x 6 bays. T-plan. Fothergill extended the house
several times, and the facades are highly irregular.
Street front, to east, has to right a square tower, 3 storeys,
with pyramidal roof and miniature raking dormers. Canted bay
window, 2 storeys, 3 lights, with balustrade, and above, 3
large single windows. At the rear, a round stair turret, 2
stages, with stepped windows and conical spire roof. To left,
a bay with mullioned windows to right, topped with a jettied
gable with a 3-light window. To left, an external stack and
single small windows.
Garden front, to south, has to right a wing with a canted bay
window, 3 storeys, 3 lights, with a timber-framed gable. To
left, a canted wooden bay window, 3 lights, and above it, a
timber-framed first floor with canted oriel window under a
crenellated crest. To left again, a higher gabled bay fronted
by a glazed wooden verandah, 3 bays. On its left, a set back
bay with doorway and timber-framed upper floor under a hipped
roof. At the left end, a large half-hipped bay with canted
front and 4 segment-arched windows. Timber-framed first floor
with a 5-light window, each light with a separate hipped roof.
