PREES CP SHREWSBURY STREET (west side), No 16, Shropshire House

(Formerly listed as Shropshire House, SHREWSBURY STREET, previously listed as Shropshire House (including Prees Post Office))

GV II House. Late C18 refronting of C17 building; later additions and alterations. Rendered timber frame clad in C18 red brick to front; slate roof. Original house of three framed bays with eaves raised and clad in brick to front in late C18. Two storeys and attic with dentilled eaves cornice; three window front, three-light C19 segmental-headed casements with late C19 gabled eaves dormers directly above. Main entrance between first and second windows from left through plain pilastered doorcase with four-panel door (top panels now glazed); similar entrance to far right. Red brick ridge stack between second and third windows from left and integral end stack to left.

INTERIOR: timber frame (square panels) exposed to original back wall on ground floor, fragmentarily to cross-wall to right of entrance and to right gable end on first floor. Single-purlin roof in three bays with collar and tie-beam trusses visible in attic. Gabled range at right-angles to rear, rebuilt late C20 is not of special architectural interest.
