House. C16 or C17, remodelled early C19 with c1919 south and west additions in the vernacular style. Roughcast limestone rubble with freestone quoins and platband below the parapet; steep-pitched stone slate roof with 2-light casement windows to 3 C20 hipped dormers; moulded ashlar stacks to former gable ends. Formerly 3-unit plan, now L-shaped plan. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attics; symmetrical 3-window range to the main block, 4 windows to the c1919 gabled right wing. 8/8-pane sash windows flank 6/6-pane central windows; that to the ground floor in the position of a former door, that to the 1st floor is semicircular-arched. A c1919 porch to the left return has a hipped stone slate roof supported by 3 square pillars; above it to the right is a timber lintel to a small C18 window, to the left is a 2-light stone mullioned window. INTERIOR: not inspected but noted as having carved stops to chamfered beams and a 4-centred arch, ogee mouldings and mantle to an open fire. HISTORY: records of the manor exist from 1258 when Henry III gave the property to William de Valeree, Earl of Pembroke. (Chamberlain, Joseph A: Chippenham: Chippenham: 1976-: 20).
