roof, yellow brick chimney on ridge line on left, second stack
at right against rear wall of front range. Built as single
ended Wealden house with 2-bay front, the right (west) bay
forming the hall, 3 bay rear 2-storey outshut added late C16,
when hall floored.
EXTERIOR: first floor has 2 flush-set sash windows, 12 pane
and 16 pane; ground floor has recessed entry at left, with
restored C19 shopfront extending across remainder of front
concealing jettied first floor. C20 hardwood framed plate
glass windows, recessed double leaf three quarter glazed
doors, green tile stallriser, pilaster surround with deep
fascia and cornice flanked by moulded consoles. Long 2-storey
rear outshut, with single storey C20 pantile-roofed outshut

INTERIOR: exposed beams of inserted floor in ground floor
restaurant, access to first floor from alley at side leading
past inserted fireplace in service bay. First floor has
exposed studwork to partition separating solar from upper part
of hall; downward curved bracing, cut for insertion of central
door following insertion of floor, with cut plate which housed
studs of recessed first floor (upper wall of hall). Crown post
roof structure above, fore and aft bracing to collar purlin,
with inserted stack hard alongside, halved and pegged rafters
and collars, lack of smoke blackening suggesting unheated hall
and solar. 3 bay rear outshut now open on first floor, above
restaurant kitchens on ground floor. Partly braced tie beams,
3- and 4-light diamond mullion windows with shutter grooves.
Fireplace at far south-west corner of outshut removed during
