House. C17 and C18, altered and extended C20. Timber-framed,
colourwashed brick (No.239), colourwashed pebbledashed
(No.241), red brick, header bond (No.243). Old tiled roofs,
hipped end, No.243 with 1985 gabled extension on east, red
brick chimneystacks. Stack with grouped flues to No.243.
EXTERIOR: 2 terraced cottages, with No.243 built at right
angles with central lobby entry plan. 3-bay elevation to
Hertingfordbury Road. First floor has 2-light cast-iron
lattice casement at left (No.239), central wood 2-light wood
casement at right (No.243). Ground-floor windows similar, with
segmental arched heads, No.239 has battened door, with flat
hood on cut brackets, No.241 has battened door beneath porch
with old tiled lean-to roof.
Principal elevation of No.243 faces south; first floor and
ground floor have 3-light casements, the latter plain glazed,
right of centre, central C20 glazed door (replacing 6-panel
door noted in 1973) in wood lined reveal with cornice hood on
profiled cut brackets, with C20 iron support at left;
projecting gabled wing built 1985 at far right.
INTERIOR: No.243 has chamfered beams with tongue stops on
ground floor, 2-panel doors with HL-hinges either side of
chimney, exposed beams with carpenters' marks, roof with
rafters much renewed but some pegged, raised C18. Rear gabled
outshut shared with No.239 and has large recessed early C18
24-pane sash window in English bond red brick wall.
